We research plant-soil-water interactions through field experimentation and numerical modeling. We study how plant species compete for soil water, the complex flowpaths water takes between rainfall and streamflow, and the social implications of these processes. Through our research we hope to minimize the flooding risks of downstream communities, the economic risk of drought to the agricultural industry, and the environmental impacts of human-water systems. We work in diverse landscapes including forests, farmlands, and dense urban environments.
